10 Romantic Things To Do In Devon

When we think of romance, words such as love and beauty come to mind, which is something Devon has always had to offer. Located in the heart of the South West is Devon somewhere known for its amazing natural scenery and authentic feel. In my eyes, Devon is one of the most Romantic places to visit, so if you’re thinking of spending a romantic weekend away then here are 10 romantic things to do in Devon.

1. A romantic dinner on the steam railway

There are of course different ways to be romantic and a traditional experience can make you feel like those old-time romantic movies like Casablanca. A romantic dinner for two combined with a traditional steam train and beautiful views of the Devon countryside gives you a recipe for romance. South Devon Railways offers dining experiences and beautiful scenery as does Dartmouth Steam Railway.

2. Picnic on Dartmoor

This has to be one of my favourite romantic things to do in Devon and an experience in itself as Dartmoor is so vast you get beauty wherever you go. Packing a picnic is the best way to explore Dartmoor at your own pace there are plenty of great walks for every level of walker and some exceptional places to visit. Some areas are hidden away like Bellever Tor and others like Venford Reservoir are harder to miss either way even in the summertime you will have your own privacy as Dartmoor is so big.

3. Relaxing on the beach

One of my favourite things to do together is head down to the beach at night and watch for shooting stars. Because the air is so clear in Devon on a good night you can see many shooting starts darting across the sky. I advise taking warm clothes and blankets as it gets cold by the sea, especially in the winter. Depending on the beach your visiting a great little extra is to light a small fire and toast marshmallows whilst basking in its warmth. Make sure you check the beaches for their rules as they are all different and may not allow fires, Slapton is a good one.

4. Go for luxury

If you feel like a romantic getaway where you can feel totally relaxed then Devon has some of the most luxurious accommodations in the UK. Places like Bovey Castle offer luxury in everything they do, take it easy and enjoy their spa facilities or be adventurous and let them take you exploring on the moors in a Land Rover Defender. Another great place to stay is The Burgh Island Hotel this hotel offers similar luxuries but with its breathtaking views across Bantham Beach it’s a choice between the coast or the moors and both are great romantic things to do in Devon.
