5 Great Places To Eat In Salcombe
When deciding on places to eat in Salcombe there are an abundant amount of restaurants with fresh fish landed daily and ready to grace your plate. These are some of my favourite places when eating out in Salcombe and that’s not to mean that all the other wonderful Salcombe restaurants and foodie establishments should be ignored, there is so much on offer.
This charismatic restaurant is situated in the heart of Salcombe along the main street. It has a great reputation for hearty meals for all the family. The restaurant is decorated with a pirate theme and wooden features. One of the must eat places in Salcombe especially if you have children, they have an excellent selection of food with a children’s menu too. The one attraction for this restaurant is that the prices are very reasonable, a wonderful place for all.
Going closer to the shore with dazzling views across the water, this popular restaurant has a strict policy and only uses the freshest fish. They are sourced straight from local fishing boats in Salcombe, allowing them to produce some of the freshest and finest meals around. The Crab Shed has an indoor restaurant or if the weather is appropriate you may want to venture outside onto their waterfront terrace. For a hearty portion of fish and chips it can set you back around £15 which is reasonable for the area and due to its location that is what your going to pay. The fact it specialises in fresh fish means the prices for catch of the day are not published online so phoning ahead is recommended.
Known to serve some of the best food around and hearty meals with lots of extras. The winking prawn is slightly pricier than others in the area but for the taste its unquestionable. Located down at North Sands it has magnificent views of the beach and an idyllic setting makes it perfect for relaxing beach side. In the summer, weather permitting they do a great BBQ with all your standard BBQ food and in addition some wonderful fresh fish. Eat outside or in, its entirely up to you the staff are welcoming and eager to help. One great advantage of this restaurant is that they do breakfast every morning, so to start the day off it’s a wonderful place to go. The restaurant fills up quickly so phone ahead to avoid disappointment, lunch is also available to take away.
I think everyone can understand the feeling when you’re out and about a long way from home and your stomach starts to give you the nod that its lunchtime. Every time I visit Salcombe I am never disappointed in this wonderful delicatessen, it is one of my favourite places to eat in Salcombe. Nestled in the heart of the town it’s a hassle free tasty answer to your stomachs grumbles. Delicious baguettes and sandwiches with an array of fillings, including the famous Salcombe crab. They offer lots more products from chutneys to cheese and can provide freshly made pasties throughout the day.
If you’re looking for a more country feel the Victoria Inn is probably the most popular pub in Salcombe (taking nothing away from the other great pubs). One of the reasons this excellent restaurant is a favourite of mine is for they are a dog friendly establishment and any well behaved dogs are allowed even in the restaurant. Having a dog is great and is even better when you can take them into places. As many places in Salcombe the Victoria Inn uses the freshest ingredients straight from the sea or surrounding countryside. They have a diverse menu and children are well catered for with a good range of meals on the children’s menu. An all-round family pub with a great atmosphere and great food.
