5 Beautiful Places To Stay In South Devon

5 Beautiful Places To Stay In South Devon

Devon is one of the most charming and beautiful places to visit and if you’re coming from outside of the region its great to have somewhere just as special to stay. Devon is full of some amazing accommodation from the grand to the quaint and the quirky to the ordinary, wherever you decide to lay your head its good to know you have chosen the right accommodation for you. Here are some of my own suggestions on the most beautiful places to stay in Devon.

Bovey Castle

Bovey Castle is on all the lists in all the tourist magazines and there’s a good reason why. Both location and stature play a huge role in why Bovey Castle is one of the most beautiful places to stay in Devon. Located just outside the moorland town of Bovey Tracey it stands within 275 acres of private land overlooking beautiful Dartmoor. The hotel comprises of both hotel bedrooms and lodges located in the grounds. The rooms are of different standard depending on price, although the lower standard bedrooms are still spectacular. If you can’t fill enough time exploring the moors and surrounding towns and villages, Bovey Castle Hotel offers a wide selection of leisure activities, including off-road driving experiences in their very own Land Rover Defenders. If you’re looking for something at a slower pace you can practice your shot on their very own nationally acclaimed Championship golf course or relax in the tranquillity of their newly refurbished Luxury Spa. Whichever way you choose to spend your time in Devon you will be overwhelmed with the beauty of this incredible Manor House. Click here for the latest prices

Salcombe Blue Harbour Hotel

The Salcombe Harbour Hotel is a luxurious seaside retreat, with an ideal location for water sports, dining out and coastal walks. Located in the heart of Salcombe this hotel not only makes the most of its location by serving wonderfully fresh fish and local produce but also has its own spa facilities. The hotel itself is not a grand building such as Bovey Castle but what it lacks in grandeur it makes up with absolutely stunning views across Salcombe harbour. The location is convenient for doing some retail therapy or taking part in the many seaside activities that are available. Salcombe is a great place to visit and eating out is extra special, with fresh fish and locally sourced produce it won’t disappoint. Make sure you have a look at the posts on Salcombe “Exploring Salcombe” and “5 Great Places to Eat in Salcombe” for some great ideas on what to do and where to eat. Boringdon Hall

Boringdon Hall is another fabulous building with amazing character. Boringdon is located on the edge of the moors and is steeped in history, first being mentioned in the doomsday book. If you’re looking for luxury, Boringdon has to be on your list. The manor house is home to 40 luxurious rooms, a bar and two wonderful restaurants one for fine dining and the other for something lower key. As well as the wonderful amenities and stunning grounds that Boringdon has, it is also located conveniently for travelling into Plymouth City or onto the stunning open moorland. After spending a long day exploring Plymouth or adventuring across the moors, Boringdons Spa facilities are a great way to relax. The hotel’s restaurant is well known and serves up some spectacular dishes with so much produce available locally, even if you’re not staying, it’s still worth a visit. Burgh Island

If you visit Devon and your keen on the beach you will hear names like Bantham and Bigbury come up fairly often, these are two of the most popular beaches in South Devon. Burgh Island hotel is located just off from the two beaches Bigbury and Bantham. What could be more stunning and beautiful than waking up on your very own tidal island with views stretching across the coast. The hotel itself was built in 1929 and has been restored to its former glory with a 1930’s art deco style, in fact, this hotel is known to be one of the best places in Europe to find examples of this style. As with many hotel’s burgh island comes with its very own history being favoured by writers Agatha Christie and Noel Coward. The food served at burgh island is very seasonal and the majority of all their ingredients are sourced locally. Of course, being so close to the sea activities like swimming, surfing and beach walks are a must, but if your tired from a full day of water sports then you can relax in the hotel spa as well as have a game of snooker, table tennis or regular tennis, its entirely up to you on this wonderful island retreat.
